Sarah Dinsmore Says:  So long for a while....

Healing Sarah from Adenocarcinoma of the Stomach

Picture
Sarah's journey with cancer began on October 9th, 2010.   She was admitted to the incredible Legacy Good Samaritan Hospital in Portland, Oregon with suspicion of a faulty gallbladder.  She had been having symptoms for a few months of not being able to easily swallow or digest her food and had lost quite a bit of weight, but she never in a million years thought it could be anything other than a tricky digestive system.

On this day, however, Sarah doubled over in pain and had to seek emergency services at Good Samaritan.  Although her care and treatment at Good Samaritan was exceptional, her tests were inconclusive.  Her gallbladder wasn't fully emptying but it didn't look like the cause of her problems either.

Test after test ensued with inconclusive results for one week until finally her extremely caring surgeon Dr. Michael Breda came to her as she was being discharged from the hospital.  Dr. Breda had the following request.  "Ms. Dinsmore, I can't stop thinking about your  case.  Please let me try one more thing.  Exploratory laparoscopic abdominal surgery."  Even though biopsies and scans were inconclusive,  Dr. Breda knew that Sarah was presenting with troubling symptoms.  On Friday, October 15th, 2010  Sarah and her friends and family received the shocking news that Sarah had adenocarcinoma of the stomach and that it had spread throughout her abdominal cavity.  Her cancer is also called intraperitoneal carcinomatosis of the stomach and is diagnosed as high-grade per pathology.    Sarah's journey towards healing began on that day and she needs our help to stay on her path.

Sarah and her wonderful daughters Pamela and Emily are sorting through the multiple treatments, chemo, nutrition options, and alternative care for this disease.  They are a teacher, a social worker, and a pharmacy technician respectively.  None of them have large financial resources and Sarah's bills are mounting even though the doctors and institutions involved are being very giving and charitable.  Just paying for Sarah's rent and food is a source of worry and concern right now.
